Dear Prime Minister

Re:  Dr Zakir Naik -  Exclusion Order 16th June 2010

I am writing to inform you that I believe the decision taken by the Secretary of State for the Home Department to exclude eminent Islamic scholar, Dr Zakir Naik, from entering the United Kingdom is extremely disappointing and very disturbing.
 
Prime Minister, Dr Zakir Naik is renowned worldwide and in the United Kingdom for his excellent work in the field of comparative religion, bringing together people from all the major faiths of the world on a common platform of peace and mutual understanding. He has done much work to promote the true message of Islam, dealing with misconceptions and fears whilst promoting tolerance towards all and making it clear that terrorism and violent extremism in the name of religion is not part of the faith of Islam.
  
It would be wholly inaccurate and simply wrong to suggest otherwise. Dr Zakir Naik is definitely not a “Preacher of Hate” nor is he a “Terror Backer”. These are ridiculous suggestions.
 
The decision by the Home Secretary to exclude Dr Zakir Naik from entering the United Kingdom goes against values we hold dearly in our country of social justice and freedom and it does nothing to promote integration and harmony between the diverse people of this land. It is particularly damaging in light of the thousands of people who had obtained tickets to hear Dr. Naik speak at the Peace Conference Tour in the United Kingdom.

I believe this decision is very damaging both at home and internationally and likely to alienate many people. I also believe this decision is based on inaccurate, misconstrued and misconceived ideas about what Dr Zakir Naik may have said in the past.
 
I therefore ask you to please re-consider.

Prime Minister, I would respectfully ask that this exclusion order against Dr Zakir Naik be withdrawn immediately. I would ask that we welcome Dr. Naik into our country and permit the Peace Conference Tour to continue. I would ask that we firmly hold onto our principles of freedom and social justice.
